found object

this painting was found at the big bargain store "everything but granny's panties". they buy estates and all of the items they feel are low value, they put into a $2.00 sale. you get to fill a box with as much of this stuff as you can for only $2.00. it is a bunch of items you find in thrift stores these days; mostly for a dollar or less. thrift store shopping has caught on and although they get items donated but if it has a label, or value on ebay, they are marking these items up. it is a sad day for us poor folks.

inspection tag - found at a thrift store in a metal desk. the woman at the counter gave it to us for free. she counted all of the 25-cent pill boxes though; all nine of the them. she pulled them apart, cute as they are, and counted them. greg said there was no need to pull them apart; she could have just counted them. but greg is right, we always take the good stuff and run.

we should write a blog on how to shop a thrift store. at this time, there is so much junk that people are buying in the regular stores, we are in trouble once that shit comes downstream.

the plot of the blog: you need to find cheap products that will last longer than you.

what year was this expection tag made?
what year was it filled out?

lunch at king's sandwich shop

greg shot these photos while jerry went to get lunch at one of the last down home comfort food restaurants, king's sandwich shop. it was a very hot day and they needed to park in the shade.

the only shade was two blocks away from the restaurant. the photographs below are of the buildings by our shade tree in the warehouse district downtown.

the favorite regular meal from kings:

chuckwagon with lettuce, tomato, and mayo
french fries
sweet ice tea

another thrift store find

shopping at thrift stores can be a whole lot of fun. everything is fairly unexpected if it turns out to be something you like. this was a find because it was priced right but nothing we went to the store to find. there are a few gargoyles about the house but this is the largest so far.

more on the gargoyle.

evening primrose

the evening primrose this year grew over six feet tall. there were many blooms every evening. i enjoyed the hint of pepper in the fragrant flowers. unfortunately, the japanese beetles were chomping the plants and needed to be pulled off daily; hundreds of them.

praying mantis

these are fascinating; they way they live and camouflage themselves. it is nice they live in our garden too. i just wish they ate mosquitoes.

learn more about the praying mantis.

buddha with hair

a buddha statue in the yard got some hair this year. the hair is from theodore's haircut to take off some painful mats (kitty dreadlocks) he had grown. buddha's hair evolved over time and eventually moved on to some bird's nest.

one friend commented the hair was grotesque. i do not think it is grotesque at all. what do you think?

mongo red wagon

how many wagons can one adult kid have? is four too many? wagons are great for gardening and just hauling stuff around in your own worldly way. too bad the new ones sold are just plastic, eek.

this one here is a little rusty but still works great.

the cracked earth

summer 2006 has been a dry, dry season. there was a lot of rain earlier during spring. many plants were established but now the skies have dried in our neck of the woods. it is so dry, the earth is cracking.
